Today we tried out a new kind of winter activity. It included the athlete wearing metal bladed footwear and moving their legs in a diagonal motion to propel oneself forward. This is commonly known as figure skating or ice-skating for short. We attempted to master this technique at a nearby resort named Northstar. Some of us were maestros. But most of the team members, unfortunately, couldn’t grasp the concept and ended up falling over! It was a memorable experience for all.
After the eventful ice-skating session we decided to head out for pizza at our favorite pizza restaurant Zano’s. The pizza there was a work of art with the perfect consistency of cheese and other toppings. The bases were cooked to perfection by a pizza-making god we call ‘Zano’, when all the flavors infuse in your mouth it sends out little bursts of flavor and makes you eat more! Finlay… being Finlay, ordered a Coca Cola, which he was honestly astounded at the size of his bottle. This was a rather eventful meal.
Our time in Tahoe is drawing to a close… Our training has changed from mostly slow technique work, with many stops to help us refine our technique, to specific training and interval sessions in smaller groups and at higher intensity. Teaching us and helping us to become better skiers are a mixture of Australian and American coaches; namely JC, Ewan, Gus, Noah, Holly, Kara and Glen, all of which you will likely hear about. We have had a fantastic time and are all wishing that it never had to end!
